The Lounge on Kromboom

My everyday Dilemma would be that there is no place anywhere remotely near me that sells Sushi. Its seriously a pain. Especially when that craving hits you. It gets to me so badly that Id even consider opening my own sushi bar..But that would be Dom because id eventually just eat everything. Nomnomnom...Pahaha

The Lounge on Kromboom
Anyway Ive been to The Lounge quite a few times with My People but My person hasnt been so why not try it out now?
The Lounge on Kromboom
Indoor setup
The amazing thing about The Lounge is that it's family run and fully halaal. Score! As the name suggests, It a place where you can...well...Lounge around. A cool chill spot and great for get togethers. The menu caters for all food lovers and is heaven to me because they have SUSHI!!! OMG! Theres 3 different settings aswell. So go with your Family, go with your friends, Go with your person. You have the option of sitting inside, Outside on the Balcony and In the Smoking lounge.

Im having a problem rotating this and its pissing me off so im just going to leave it like this(Not by choice)
The Drink I had was The Lounges Berry Cooler which was actually really refreshing and My person had tea because apparently we are teadrinkers nowadays. Come to think of it... I Shoouldve tried the Masala Chai.
The Lounge on Kromboom
So for my meal (Stuffed already from the sushi...But I couldn't resist) I cannot recommend this dish enough. THE LOUNGE SPICE PASTA is the Pasta you have been looking for all your life. Its light, its creamy, its just the right amount of spicy(But obviously i still asked for extra chillies) and it just hits the right spots. Comfort food I tell you! You have the option of having it Penne, Fete chine or Spaghetti. I made the mistake of taking Fettuccine the other day and it was terrible to slurp it up. Ended up splashing it all over the person sitting next to me. Which was epically funny. (Note to self: do not order things you need to slurp on a first date! haha). So the Penne which is the one in the picture above would be your best bet. Also its my favourite...so psssh obviously its going to be your favourite aswell.
The Lounge on Kromboom

My person had the Steak wrap and chips which was apparently light yet filling. And it looks so cute too.

The Balcony set up

Almost every time I go I sit on the balcony area which is ideally near the Sushi Lounge and perfect for me as I get hot really quickly. Also see that little red throw on the chair in the last picture...Yeah you can request one if you feel a tad bit too chilly. Heavenly. And when it gets ridiculously cold, heaters get put on. Did I mention that there's free WiFi? Yaaaay!!!
Also there's a smoking lounge where you can purchase a Hookah and just chill. And they have a Cigar Menu! Say What! Definitely trying a cigar next time.

Breakfast at the Blue train

Being in town at insane hours of the morning its hard to actually find a place open that serves breakfast that suits me. Most eating places open at 11am or thereabout. Im not sure if you remember my last post about The Blue train (Which can be read here) where I said I'd give them a second chance?
Well I did. And it was heavenly to say the least.

So my Bud and I headed off because he's really serious when it comes to place having a halaal certificate (like we all should be...but I guess im more open. DONT JUDGE ME!).I was skeptical to go back but oh well. I had nothing to lose.

I still maintain that the space is waaay too cramped for claustrophobic people but since we were there so early we shared the place with 2 other patrons.
The breakfast menu is vast. I think it took us about 10 miuntes to decide what it is we wanted and even when we said we where ready to order...We werent really. Im indecisive. Deal with it!

Atlantic express the blue trainI opted for the Farmer's Omelette which was made up of 3 eggs, mushrooms, macon, onions, cheddar cheese, tomato and your choice of bread for toast. (Insanely big slices of toast might I add.. I loved that the eggs were so light and fluffy. And the textures really complimented each other well. Also having the cheese ooze out everytime you cut into it saw my happy face. And it was super filling aswell.
And it cost me R55. Well worth it.
boss breakfast My bud decided to go for the Boss's Breakfast -Like a boss. It included 2 (Big) slices of toast topped with cream cheese, salmon, tomato, onion, Avocado(hmmm my favourite) and chilli. It was rather weird though as he doesn't eat anything raw(sushi hater but hasn't even tried sushi) so I didnt think he'd enjoy it but he did. It was what a breakfast should be. Light and wholesome.

And Masala Chai is great with any drink in my opinion. (Picture taken from the Glam Locket coz mine got corrupted. Sikes!)

Im keen on trying the Spinacha nd Feta next.

The great thing was they are open at 8am everyday and its not too busy so you can stick around for a while. Have a cuppa coffee or two and complain about things or rush to get an assignmnet done (story of my life!).
I'd recommend it- The breakfast part.
Try it and Holla at me.

Recipe: Chicken Balls

Recipe: Hertzoggies

Hertzoggies is a great treat to have with your tea after a heavy meal. The sweet crust, sweet coconut and sweet jam sounds overbearing but to sweet-tooths like me its a combination to die for. And its really simple to make. What I love about it is its so versatile instead of sticking to traditional and just having Jam and Coconut you can experiment and add fillings that you prefer.
Ingrediants:
  • 500g Butter/Margarine
  • 1 cup Castor sugar
  • 1 Tsp Vanilla essence
  • 1 Egg
  • 5 cups of Self raising flour (Add as required)
  • Your choice of filling

If you do want coconut as a filling:
  • 500g Coconut
  • 500g Sugar
  • Stick Cinnamon
  • 4cups of water
Put everything in a pot till the water dries out

Method:

Mix all your ingredients except the flour(Make sure the butter is soft). Once mixed, Mix in the flour by hand to form a soft dough. I needed to add quite a bit but do so a little at a time. You'll know it's right when it doesnt cling to your hand.

Thereafter dust your surface with flour and roll out a section of the dough at a time. Take a piece of wax paper and put it over the dough when rolling to prevent the dough sticking to the rolling pin. Choose a cookie cutter and constantly dip it in flour as you push into the dough.
Dont forget to spray your pans

My mom suggested I put the coconut in first and then add the jam immediately when it comes out of the oven. So heavenly.
You could also bake it plain and put whatever filling you like. My favourite is definately Peppermint caramel where you take 1 tin of Caramel Treat, 1 box of Orley Whip and 1 Peppermint chocolate, mix it together and scoop in into the tartlets.
This recipe gave me about 80 hertzoggies so you'll have more than enough to give all your neighbours as well :)

Happy baking :)

Recipe: Butterbean Balls

I love beans, especially Butterbeans. I could literally eat it everyday. That and sushi. So I found a recipe that involved butterbeans I figured i would try it out. Needless to say, it was good and really simple.

Ingredients:
  • 1 Tin Butterbeans
  • 3 Viennas, sliced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 5 slices White bread, crumbled
  • 1 xl Egg, beaten
  • 1tsp lemon juice
  • 2tsp Garlic paste
  • Salt & Pepper to taste
  • 100g breadcrumbs
  • Oil for frying
  • (And I added alot of fresh chillies, finely chopped)

Method:
Process the butterbeans, viennas, onions, garlic and bread together. Put in a bowl and add the egg, seasoning and chillies. Form into little balls and roll into the breadcrumbs till completely covered.
Deep fry for about 5 minutes and you good to go.
I would suggest putting a little cube of cheese into the ball before you breadcrumb it.  Gooey goodness.

Im really keen on trying the Spagatti Balls. Will be posting that soon.

XOXO

Recipe: Flapjacks

I found this recipe on Fatima Sydow's page that you can viewed here. And I couldn't wait to try it out.
Its one of those things you can make it no time and is so devine. Another reason why I love this recipe is that the frying process requires no oil at all. Score!  Lets do this:
Perfect with Ice-cream and strawberries

Ingredients

1 large egg
1 cup of sifted cake flour
1 cup of full cream milk
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
(I would add some sugar though)

Method

Whisk egg , add the rest of ingredients , whisk till smooth , about a minute .

Heat a frying pan , with no oil or butter , pour with a ladle or half a cup worths in pan , when bubbles start appearing on the surface it's time to flip them over with a spatula , leave on heated pan for 30 seconds , and it's done take it out and place on your serving plate, repeat with remaining batter , you can get 6 pancakes from this batter , you want more , just double all the ingredients .

Serve it with Vanilla ice cream , strawberries and strawberry syrup , yum !!! Serve while pancakes are still warm. I however would not be able to resist adding Nutella or Golden syrup.
