Roowaney

Im flu-ey and miserable but I got up to go to my granny nevertheless. Today is Roowaney. A Muslim-Khokni-Indian custom. Ive literally asked everyone in the house to explain it to me and everyone just kept redirecting me to someone else and so the cycle continued until I just gave up. So heres what I made of it:

Roowaney, which is usually held after the 40days, is a day set aside to have a family gathering. Whats usually done is 7 plates are put out with various delecacies that the deceased loved and is wrapped up and given to the mosque. Much like an offering. According to a source we do this to escort the soul out of the house(Much like the 40days) and pray that the deceases be granted forgiveness. It doesn't really need to be 7 plates it should just be an odd number. Because i come from a family that's always OverTheTop we had 11. We had lunch(Which was also all my uncles favorites) and thereafter we had a small recital. The plates was then taken to the mosque where it would be shared with whoever was there.
A Surah Yaseen booklet(Which is the heart of the quraan) was made with the name of the deceased inside the cover. This was accompanied by this freakishly large biscuit and given to everyone who attended the 40days and the Roowaney today
Doodery
Jelebi
I freaken love these snowballs
Dhalgos (Mypersons favourite)
Tomatoe bredie, A typically Cape Malay dish butit was my uncles favourite and my mother makes it awesome
22 cups of rice, yes its safe to say we running a military camp
Unfortunatly didnt take a picture of the other veggies and atchaars
The men usually sits on their own
And the women in the kitchen
All of this including the crockery gets donated to the mosque in the name of the deceased accompanied by a Quraan.
