Lastnight, I had the opportunity to attend the Western Cape Government, Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport's Long Service Awards for 2014. The event was held to give recognition for all civil servants in this department that has worked for the government for 10 year and more.
Everything about it was beautiful. All guests were welcomed by a chaperone who offered eiither pineapple or watermelon drinks in the cutest bottles and also had platters of fruit skewers.
As we walked in I was already impressed with the table setting. We sat down, and it started an hour late. Pssssh and they say indians are always late?
The programme started by the MC opening remarks followed by the singing of the National Anthem. A welcome was done by the HoD Mr B Walters who in his speech beautifully stated "Our most valuable assets in any company or organization is not the Land and Buildings, Vehicles or equipment But its you, the people". It was heartwarming to know that most people still take the time out to thank the workers who make everything possible.
After his speech we got a keynote address from the Minister Dr I Meyer who explained the importance of the bottomline and what the bottom line is suppose to be.
Starters were plated and as soon as the speeches were over, waiters flooded in serving everyone a plate of perfectly cooked fish, a prawn and a mussel, accompanied by a rich buttery sauce.
(unfortunatly i seem to have lost the photo somehow)
Anyway after starters the award ceremony began calling up every awardee to come up to the stage collect their awards and take a photo with the Minister and HoD. My gorgeous friend Clarette Pypers received an award for working in service for a WHOLE THIRTEEN YEARS. This is a special well done to her as I could'nt be any more proud. :)
and now my favourite part : The food!
It was a typical buffet style setting but honestly the food was incredible.

The orange and red moulds you see are carrot and beetroot salads. i thought that was cool |

The menu included a variety of steamed veggies, meats and the most perfect vegetarian lasagne i have ever tasted in my life. There was a dhal and chickpea thing to and my absolute favourite: butterchicken!! It wasnt as great as i wouldve liked it to be butstill.. |
This is a terrible picture of me but its because the night ended with everyone kicking off their Stilletos and dancing it out. The event was a huge success and I met so many new people. It was definatly one of those You-had-to-be-there evenings.
